The rule of thirds is a sort of frame in photography where an image is split into 9 and the center of the image is the bit where most of the concentration is.
The rule of thirds to me sort of make you give a placement for objects in an image, usually the thing you want to actually take a picture of is in the middle, so the main point where the eye focuses on an image is the middle box in the rule of thirds, while the rest of the boxes are just to make the image look like an image. I know that my definition might not make sense, but trust me, i know what i mean, and it will make sense to you.

Personally, I would describe the rule of thirds as an advanced framing method, as all the other methods of composition, this also does make your photos more interesting, because all the boxes in the grid (which would be a full image) are frames, and these boxes can be filled with many different objects, buildings, people, wildlife, vehicles or whatever you are taking an image of, normally, the main part of an image is in the middle, or in other words, the main meaning of the photo being taken is in the middle, because it would feel weird looking back at those wedding images and seeing you and your partner on the top right corner, or on the top left, or anywhere else than the middle, it would feel weird because it is not something we are used to, and therefore the image does not feel right or in other words, professional. This method of photography can have many people 'THINKING OUT OF THE BOX' and coming up with crazy but awesome ideas, and sometimes, those crazy but awesome ideas turn out to be pretty awesome and different, which is something that we always try to work on, making something which is new and different.
